Ian’s Web

It’s Game Time! - UPDATE!

Let’s play a game!

Yes, this is a fun game for anybody, ages three and up!

It’s called, “Guess what piece of bluetooth electronic communications equipment Ian just sent through the washer!”

*sigh*

Yes, I washed my Plantronics Discovery 655 with the load of blue jeans I just did. *sigh* No, I didn’t pay $150 for it - only $75 after tax and shipping. Still, it means I won’t be able to use my phone while driving for the next few days. I’m going to let this thing dry out a bit (I actually considered running it through the dryer!!) before I try to charge it, but I think it’s a goner. I might actually go to my nearest Central Computer store, where they actually sell this model tomorrow and buy a new one.

Boy, that’ll learn me not to put them in my pockets.

I’m just glad I got the game of “where did my hearing aides go again?” out of my system when I was a kid.

That’s all from me for now. I just got home from picking my friend Abraham up from the airport and I’m TIRED. Thanks for visiting and Keep Coming Back!!!

UPDATE: As of 2:15am, this thing appears to be taking a charge! Who’d'a thunk it?
UPDATE #2: As of 8:30am, it’s doing wonky stuff - like constantly flashing blue to red and not turning off. It’s dead, Jim!

Flagging Friday

In case you didn’t know, Flagging is a synonym of Tired.

Yes, I’m tired.

Because of the heat we’ve been having lately, I haven’t haven’t been getting to sleep until it’s cooled down considerably in my apartment - usually around 3:00am. And, of course, getting back up at 8:00am means that I’m getting more and more tired as the week goes on. Last night, I took a 2-hr nap when I got home from work, then got up to gather my friend from the airport. I got to bed earlier than usual - about 1:30am - and had a full 6.5 hours of sleep this morning.

But I’m still tired.

And I don’t get to sleep in tomorrow either.

Tomorrow I get to go back to the old office one last time to pull the last of our hardware and clean the crap out for the landlords. It shouldn’t take too long, it’s just a cut-and-pull job. We’re removing wiring up to the ceiling. What’s left up there will stay up there. Unfortunately for the folks who will be moving in after us, they won’t have the wonderful wiring we laid. (If you could call it that, anyway…)

Maybe Sunday I’ll get to sleep in a bit.

That’s all from me for now. I’m going back to work. Thanks for visiting and Keep Coming Back!!!

MIA?

Not really missing in action… Just been busy doing other things. It’s not that I don’t love my readers either, ‘cuz I do… Just with all the work I’ve been doing the last several weeks, having the whole weekend to do pretty much nothing was very nice. I played lots of WoW - got my Paladin up to level 24 (from lvl 12, I think), and have been having lots of fun with him. I also did a lot of running with my druid, too.

Anyway, this is just a quickie to update the site. I’ll post more later, I promise. :-)

Thanks for visiting and Keep Coming Back!!!

Where in the World…

…have I been? Well… over the last two weeks, I’ve been helping prepare the new digs for my employer. Last week from Monday through Sunday I put in 74 hours, including Saturday and Sunday, helping prepare the networking and servers for the new building. I spent quite a while working on the Linux DHCP/DNS server, but in the end only the DHCP worked worth a damn. The DNS for our internal sub-domains is being served on a Win2k3 server. It’s actually the best of both worlds - DHCP on Linux is *much* easier to administer, and DNS on Windows was a snap to set up. And in preparation of our move to Active Directory, we’ll need the windows-based DNS anyway. DHCP will end up migrating to windows, but for now I can rejoice in yet another service I’ve been a part of implementing company-wide.

Sure it’s been tough working without a day off, but the paycheck this coming week should make up for it all. It’s been stressful and relaxing at the same time, and it’s definitely been a great learning experience. I’m very happy to have been a part of it. all.

In WoW news, I’ve moved my shaman and druid back over to the Hyjal realm to run with my brother. Unfortunately I’ve been way too busy lately to actually do anything with him. *sobs* (Damn 12-hour days!!!) Hopefully things will calm down next week so I can change this. :-)

Anyway… I should get back to work. Thanks for visiting and Keep Coming Back!!!

Going Private

I’ve set my post from Wednesday afternoon to Private. I figured I’ve had enough people read it, and while I don’t want to delete it, I don’t really want it publicly available anymore. But again, I need to thank all my friends for giving me their feedback. I’ve found that preferring to be managed doesn’t necessarily mean I’m nota self-starter. In fact, if I look back on my time here at my current employer, I’ll find that I am indeed very much a self-starter. I prefer guidance for those times where I find myself trying to figure out what to do next, but by no means do I require constant micro-managing.

I still haven’t heard back yet about the new gig. If I don’t get the job, that’s okay - the Internal IT dept is going to be growing and the duties required will be increasing. There will be opportunities for me to do more sysadmin stuff on this side of the fence, too - we’re going to Exchange and Active Directory, and we’ll be taking more and more responsibility for the IT needs (infrastructure and systems) in the non-production side of the company as well. So either way, I’ll likely end up taking on more systems administrator duties anyway.

In case you haven’t noticed, today is FRIDAY!! YAY! That means the weekend is almost here. w00t! I’ll get my off-day on Sunday when I go to visit the family. I’m looking forward to that. I don’t believe I’ve been to the folks but once since Mother’s day. From what I’ve heard, they’re finally finished with the Kitchen remodel, so it’ll be nice to see that. There’s also that wee holiday called Father’s Day on Sunday, so that will be nice. Maybe we’ll get to do something special…

One more thing before I sign off. I’ve decided to make my resume available on my website, y’know, for the heck of it. You’ll see the link in the menu shortly.

Thanks for visiting and Keep Coming Back!!!
