No New Zealander?

this restaurant back in the first half of January to make reservations for my 38/14 birthday party that was to take place today. I talked to a waitress and got my name on the list. Then I sent out my eVite invitations to about 25 people. Over the course of the last two weeks, a handful of people accepted, a few declined, and one was a maybe. In the end, it was just 12 of us (compared to the 25 we had last year), but I’ll go further into that later in this post. The last two years, I’ve been over an hour late to my own party. Not a good host, I know. This year I vowed to get there early, so I hit the road with a friend of mine and drove to Alameda at and was parked at 1:25pm. We were chatting as we walked the block from the car to the restaurant – I was proclaiming my love for the meat pies and how awesome this place was. When we got to the door, I pushed in and *thud* nothing. The doors were locked and the place was empty. What the heck? How can they be closed? They’re open from 11am to 7pm on Sundays. I’d checked the website just yesterday! A second glance in the windows showed a complete lack of New Zealand memorabilia on the walls and in the cupboards. The bar was empty (no bottles at all), and the place looked pretty much like an abandoned restaurant. It was pretty dreary, and I was pretty disappointed.

Because we were just a small group, it was far easier to relocate to another restaurant. In fact, we ended up going to Rudy’s Can’t Fail Cafe in Emeryville. The food was pretty decent, but the atmosphere – with all my friends there – was awesome. All in all, it ended up being a good day. I had members of my extended family there even if my immediate family was unable to go. I’m glad we went, and I had a good time. Thanks to everybody who came, I’m glad you could make it. 🙂 That’s all from me for now. Thanks for visiting and Keep Coming Back!!! UPDATE: According to the Alameda Journal Blog, it closed sometime late January, but they don’t know why. I’m still sad.]]>
