Live in Pennsyltuckee!

NSEW grids? You’d think that they’ve been doing this urban planning thing long enough that they’d just mow over all the twisty-turny roads and put in real street planning. Okay, enough with my horrible attempt at sarcasm. πŸ˜‰ Last night, after I got to Gordon’s place, we went to hook up with Ed and then go have dinner at Ted’s Montana Grill, a restaurant owned by Ted Turner. I had the “George’s Cadillac” – a burger with BBQ sauce, cheese and bacon – with bison instead of beef. I was expecting the meat to taste MUCH different than beef, but it wasn’t. It was VERY yummy. Gordon and Ed were extremely surprised that the restaurant was as empty as it was because normally it’s jam-packed. I guess that’s the breaks when you go on a Wednesday. πŸ™‚ Today Gordon and I are going to take the train into Philly proper and hit up the Hard Rock Cafe and see the art museum. I also want to see Rodin’s The Thinker at the Rodin Museum as well. Apparently it’s a cast of the original, but what the hell – I’ve never seen a famous statue in any form other than photos before (excluding Liberty). Ed will join us sometime today, which should be good – he knows more about Philly than anybody else I know. Granted, I only know two people from the Philly area… Monday, I flew from Chicago to Baltimore. It was a fairly uneventful flight. The plane was small, and I had an isle seat. There were three seats per row, one on the left, and two on the right. I had a seat on the left side of the plane, so my isle seat was also a window seat. It was a short flight, too. We left late and arrived early! Nobody, however, told me that the area was in the middle of a heat wave. I stepped out of the plane and onto the tarmac and gasped! After coming from a very mild Chicago, this was quite a change. It was almost around 90 on Monday and 85 on Tuesday in York. Then the clouds came and it cooled down to about 60 on Wednesday. Tuesday I got to spend a whole lot of time with my cousin Cathi. We first went to pick up my rental car only to find out that they didn’t have anything available yet. Then we went to downtown York to get tickets to opening day of the York Revolution, the local minor-league baseball club. Tomorrow is their opening day. We’re sitting behind the 3rd base dugouts! It should be a fun time. After buying the tickets, we just walked around a good sized chuck of downtown York. It’s actually a pretty big downtown area. I was kinda surprised, I’d always thought of York as a small town, but it’s actually a fairly large place. Their town center area is actually much larger than Santa Clara’s (which is only about three blocks square). My rental car was finally available around 3:00pm, and I got the aforementioned Impala at the same price as my previous reservation. It’s not too much bigger than my Jetta, and it drives nicely. I’m not sure I like the automatic transmission, but when you stomp on the gas pedal, it has plenty of ‘git up ‘n’ go’ to it. πŸ™‚ Oh, and the brakes work very well, as I’ve found out, thanks to the very courteous PA driver in that Toyota truck. (Yeah, thanks a lot, you dick!) Tonight, after we’re all done hoofing it around Philly, I’ll likely be headed back to York. Here’s hoping I don’t get lost in the dark in this backwater state. πŸ˜‰ That’s all from me for now. I promise that I’ll get the pictures up soon! Thanks for visiting and Keep Coming Back!!!]]>

  1. Welcome to roads put down over cowpaths and wagon trails! Fun, ain’t it?
Glad you are having a good time!
    Ol’ Dad

  2. I had a ball in Philly. I’d like to go back when I have a LOT more time. Same with Chicago, and same with NYC…
