Baseball and More

San Francisco Giants fan. The Giants beat the Padres 4-2 and the Dodgers lost to the Daimondbacks 3-2. The gap now is .5 games. w00t! My friend Rob and I went to go see the game yesterday. It was fun. Now don’t get me wrong – baseball ain’t the most exciting sport to watch, but there were some very exciting moments. Barry’s home run in the 4th inning, his nice catch he made when there was a runner on 3rd. He really just made it in time, too. Nobody hit it into the bay though. Oh well… But all in all, it was a good game. A funny thing happened as I was driving home from Hayward last night though. I was nearing the Whipple Rd. exit in Union City when I saw a car approaching VERY fast in my rear-view mirror. He moved to the next lane and passed me. It was a Highway Patrol Car. He was pursued by another. I thought to myself "Damn, they’re moving fast. I wonder what the hurry is?" When I saw them take the exit for the Union Landing shopping center and saw that the time was 12:48am, I knew. Krispy Kreme was closing in 12 minutes. They were going through donut withdrawals. The things some guys will do for a crappy-ass donut. <sigh> It was amusing, nonetheless. 😉 Last weekend I went to Modesto and installed a new hard drive into my parents’ file server. Now they have more server storage space than I do. I’m not sure if I should be jealous or happy. Heh. But now I can work on getting the mess that is their computer’s hard drive cleaned up and get their system reinstalled so that it works NICELY. There are 3 partitions on that machine – one that had Win98 on it, one with XP, and one that I recently designated as storage. They don’t know where most of their data is, and under which OS. So I’m gonna rectify that with a good formatting… After I get it all backed up onto the server. 😉 One more bit of news I get to talk about before I let y’all wander off to do something else… I got the wonderful experience of trying to upgrade OpenSSH on a FreeBSD box yesterday. Granted I know diddly about the BSD ports system, except that it’s nice for installing apps from. I was really worried that I’d screw it up, ‘cuz this machine is at a colocation facility up in Fremont or someplace. If I broke ssh, somebody would have to drive up there and fix the machine locally. (Note, I’ve just been informed by the owner of the machine, "Any upgrade that is sucessfull that ya dont have to drive to colo to fix is a good one. ‘Cause I would have have drug your ass there and made you fix it while I sat there and glared ;-P") So in the end I got it all fixed, even if I did need to go the roundabout way to do it. I’m happy about that. My confidence is bolstered, and I’m feeling better about myself. When I started trying to upgrade ssh, I was trying to do it the BSD way and I was completely lost. In the end I just built it from source and made sure that it would start nicely if the machine ever lost power and rebooted itself. Yes, I learned that there is more than one way to fix something, and that I’m not a complete fark-up. 🙂 Anyhow… that’s all from me for now. Thanks for visiting and Keep Coming Back!!!]]>

  1. Uhhhhhhh… I beg to differ. Teh Kreme’s donuts are only good when hot. I personally prefer T’s donuts in Modest on Standiford. Kickass Donuts! w00t!

  2. I definitely agree with Q!. As my gf would say, “YOU’re a crappy donut!” Yes, the KK donuts are only good when the HOTLIGHT(R) is on and you’re eating it at the parking lot, but when the conditions are met… “It’s what heaven must taste like.” Even when they’re cold, 5 seconds in the microwave will make it almost as good.
My dad’s old co-worker used to work at T’s part-time, so we’d get a whole box of variety every now and then. What can you say about free donuts?
I don’t think “drug” is the past whatever tense of drag.
