Update!

has been quite a while since I’ve posted anything new here. Lots have happened over the last several weeks, including the following:

  • I finally finished reading the book Deathstalker Legacy by Simon R. Green.
  • I cleaned my apartment.
  • I started reading the Harry Potter series, again.
  • I bought a Sony Playstation2 game console
  • I returned the Playstation2 several days later.
  • I had my first job interviews since leaving Google.
Yes, that’s right! Today I had not one, but two job interviews – the first I’ve had since leaving Google. The first interview was at a contracting agency. The recruiter wanted to get a feel for what I have to offer and will be keeping his eyes out for anything I’d fit. He said he’s definately putting me on his roster of available applicants. All in all, it was a very good interview – relaxed, informative, and easy-going. I wish I could say the same about the 2nd one. <sigh> It was a phone interview, and I came home to make the call from my landline, on a phone with a headset amplifier. It was a horrible feeling for me to ask the man to repeat what he said many many times. When the interview was over I was glad to be off the phone. I felt terrible by the end of the interview. Now don’t get me wrong – it probably went better than I thought, but by the end of the interview I really had my doubts. It’s an ugly feeling, interviewing for what could potentially be a kick-ass job and not feeling like it was going right. The interviewer did say that he thought he had a position available that I could very well fit into, so that’s a good thing. I’d like to see it pan out, really I would. All told though, it was a good day. I really do hope to find employment soon. It’s starting to get rather passe’, this unemployment thing. I do need to thank my friend Patrick for keeping me occupied over tha last several days though, and for talking some sense into me regarding the PS2. You’ve kept me from being idle and helped me to stay a just that much more responsible. Thanks muchly man! I appreciate it! Anyhow, that’s it from me for now. Wish me luck in the job hunt. Thanks for visiting and Keep Coming Back!!!]]>

  1. Re: The interview where you had trouble hearing. I =hope= you mentioned to the person that you 1.) had a bad phone connection and, 2.) wear two hearing aides. Neither of those things would prevent you from doing a kick-ass job for them, but might help explain the uneasiness you felt post-interview. Might even be worth a follow up e-mail?

  2. And always write a thank you letter! It may be worth it to mention that in your thank you letter(or e-mail.)
And…what the hell were you doing buying a PS2??? And why did you return it?

  3. Why did I buy a PS2? Simple: Gran Turismo 3. I’d been playing it at my friend’s place and I decided that I *MUST* have it. It was a fun 3 days sitting in front of the TV doing nothing but GT3 and Jak & Daxter. I returned it ‘cuz I needed the money for bills.
Speaking of bills, I got them all paid yesterday. I feel better now. 🙂

  4. That’s the reason I got Dreamcast, except it wasn’t Gran Turismo, but Crazy Taxi. You can come over to my place to play GT3 any time. And if you want, you can even borrow my PS1 to play GT1 or 2. Probably not the same, but still pretty good.

  5. Well, you wouldn’t believe it anymore, Q, but I *did* clean this thing up considerably. It was rather nice while it lasted.
John, that’s a good idea, actually. I hear CT kicks much ass, and that the DC looks VERY nice on one’s computer monitor.

  6. It does look very nice. Sony really has to start putting in anti-aliasing on their machines.
Just yesterday, a friend brought over a DC game, so I dusted my DC to play it. Oh, it looks so sweet. I don’t think any of my PS2 game can match its purrrty-ness. Too bad that they don’t make games for DC anymore…
As for CT, I don’t think you’d like it as much. It’s very much not a realistic game. It’s all about doing tricks and defying laws of physics. People like Gran Turismo because it’s so realistic, and I’m guessing that’s why you like it as well.

  7. The biggest problem with GT3 is that it’s a PS2-only game. We need something like that for the PC. The sims are all fun and whatnot, but there’s no modding your car to make it go faster. It can get pretty passe’ at times. *sigh*
