Fresh Start

Gentoo Linux onto my laptop. I’ve had Debian GNU/Linux installed on there for the last year or so. I was getting to the point where I really wanted to tackle having gentoo on there. Well, I finally did it. I finally got Debian offa my laptop and put something else on. I installed FreeBSD. FreeBSD is a derivative of BSD Unix, put out by BSDi. I know many folks who prefer to run FreeBSD over Linux and tout how the Daemon kicks Tux’s ass to hell’n’gone. I’ve been playing with the 5.1-RELEASE version on my "bitchbox" for the last week or so and have really come to like it. It’s something different, yet I can run almost all my same apps. In the case of my laptop, I can run EXACTLY the same apps I ran on it before. So I decided to give it a go. Now for the last two days I’ve been having a problem getting the PCMCIA slots to be recognized by the OS. I’d tried everything I could think of and read up here and there. I still couldn’t get them working correctly. This evening I took it over to my friend Patrick‘s place to have him look at it. He tinkered with it for a bit, then a friend of his came over. This guy took a look at my situation and proceeded to search out everything he could think of on Google. He finally found a solution to my problem and got my pc-card slots working. I now have networking running on my lappie! Clayton, you rule! Thanks muchly man! Now I have to get WEP working with the wireless card here at home, but that really shouldn’t be too difficult. From what I’ve read it’s easier to get working under FreeBSD than it ever was under linux. w00t! Anyhow, that’s all from me for now. Thanks for visiting and Keep Coming Back!!!]]>
