Up Late

ASL I’ve been getting up between 6:00 and 7:00 AM every morning. It’s actually a nice feeling though – to be productive and alive during the day. So why am I up late? Simple: Harry Potter. I was up reading Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets for the third time. I had actually hoped to finish reading it before I saw the movie, but as it turned out I didn’t even finish re-reading the first book by then. I saw the movie on Sunday. Alas, I’m now finished reading book two and will start on book three tomorrow. These books are so fast reading that I’m fairly certain I’ll finish book four by the end of the weekend. My only hope is that J.K. Rowling finished book five sometime soon. Harry Potter Withdrawal Syndrome really sucks and will take me a good two weeks to overcome… <sigh> In other news, I had my first "bad day" at work today. I was playing with one of the laptops, trying to get RedHat 8.0 installed onto it and it wasn’t behaving. I finally did get it installed, but then had a problem with sound. I’m fairly certain that it was a user headspace error, but it still perplexes me. I will try again tomorrow. I do know that sound works on these things – I had to QA one today that had working sound. It’s incredibly frustrating to me when computers don’t cooperate with me. In fact, nothing infuriates me faster anymore than an ornery box that I can’t coax back into shape with my wonderous typing. So tomorrow I’ll give it another go, several times, and doing several things differently. Will definitely give my readership an update on how well I manage. (I think I’m up to three or four now, including me. Yes, I’m a sad bastard – reading my own site, looking for updates from visitors, etc.) … And with that, I’m off to bed. Thanks for visiting and Keep Coming Back!!!]]>

  1. So, is it fixed yet? Oh, sorry – it’s only 7:00. I’ll give you some more time. 8:30, then?
No worries – I’ve got to take two machines out to our office in Riverside (I say out to Riverside, but it’s closer to my house than the office I work in…), as two users have hosed theirs… If this were a perfect world, I’d simply drop these boxes off and leave (two fresh ’98 boxes). But, I can see myself being suckered into backing up their files, setting up these boxes (on a corporate WAN I know nothing about), and being asked to stick around to fix the two old boxes, and every other little glitch on every other *&#$ machine in the office. Then, I get to check out the PBX switch to find out what it is and what it can do, and head over to our new office in Corona (we’re combining the two offices into the new one) to see what shape the wiring is in, and find out what will need to be done to set up the network and phone system.
You see, “Technical Director” simply means that if it plugs in or takes batteries, and it’s not working, give it to Q! – he can fix anything. IT support? Nah, we don’t have room for it in the budget. Ask Q!. Photocopier out of toner? Fax machine out of paper? What does the “transfer” button do on your telephone?
    Yup. Ask Q!.

  2. Ummm, so can you tell me how my dslam works and where it is and how it helps with my DSL? Can we overclock it to uncap my modem? Can I come up with anymore buzz words?
Naw, I’m gonna go read some more Harry Potter!
